Tim Henrigues Biography
Tim Henriques was born on August 10th, 1976 in Fairfax, VA. He attended Fairfax High School where he was awarded the honor of being selected as Fairfax’s Health and PE Student of the Year in 1994. He then attended James Madison University, where he became a Collegiate All-American in 1999 while earning his BS degree in Kinesiology with minors in Psychology and Coaching.
Tim started his powerlifting journey with the USAPL (ADFPA) at the age of 17. He went on to set all of the teenage and subsequently junior Virginia state records for each lift @ 198. He then set the USAPL Open state record for the deadlift, lifting 700 lbs at a bodyweight of 198. He also competed with the AAU, winning their deadlift and push/pull records two years in a row and setting an Open World record with the AAU in the deadlift in the 220 lb class. He finished his lifting career with 100% RAW, winning multiple push/pull and curl competitions. In his final competition he set the 100% RAW Open National Record in the strict curl at 198. His best total was 1640@198.
Tim began coaching powerlifters in 2002 and he has coached numerous lifters who compete in USAPL and 100% RAW. His team won the 100% RAW Open World Team Championships two years in a row in 2010 and 2011.
In addition to lifting and coaching, Tim has worked hard over the last 20 years to educate others about strength and fitness. He has personally taught over 1,000 individuals to become personal trainers through a comprehensive, 500+ hour long program approved by the Department of Education of Virginia. He is also the author of 3 fitness books including the highly reviewed All About Powerlifting, which has been described as “the most comprehensive book ever written on the sport.” His other books include the textbook published by Human Kinetics entitled NPTI’s Fundamentals for Fitness and Personal Trainingand All About Program Design. He created the Powerlifting Mentorship program in 2019 to help budding coaches better understand their sport and assist their lifters. In addition to his books, Tim has published over 200 articles online about strength and fitness on such sites at Tnation.com, Schwarzenegger.com, theptdc.com, psychologytoday.com, nptifitness.com, allaboutpowerlifting.com and others. He regularly writes and lectures on health and fitness.
Tim is a USAPL and 100% RAW referee. He is on the executive board for 100% RAW.
He currently resides in Oakton, VA with his wife and 3 boys.
